Artist Spotlight: Fuyu

Following on from our interview with Dino a couple of weeks back, we have another artist to share with you…

Fuyu!

This is the incredible cover for Eura “Eurphridia” Abrams’ latest release, A Hero Returned, created by Fuyu!

We’ve worked with Fuyu many times. He’s the incredible artist behind the Blood Demon’s Retirement covers as well as several others, and we hope you enjoy learning more about him!

What made you want to draw/be an artist?

I have always had many stories in my head and wanted to tell them, but I'm pretty bad at writing, so I tried drawing. But one day, I realized that to fully shape my world, I need writing skills anyway. I'm still trying to learn about that area. For now, I draw because I don't know what else to do with my life, lol.

What’s your process like?

I'm a terrible traditional artist; I can't draw with pencils or colored pens. I rely heavily on digital tools to support my drawing process, like always using 3D models for perspective. I know how to set up a perspective grid, but somehow, it always looks skewed and distorted. Clip Studio Paint and its features have truly been a lifesaver for my drawing career.

What’s your favorite thing to draw?

Female characters. Female characters with attractive bodies. But somehow, all the jobs I get require non-sexy female characters. If I sneakily add a bit more flesh to those characters, they make me fix it immediately. Sad, really. If there's anything bulging on chests, it has to be muscles.
