Exciting Announcements!

JP Weaver here, and I’m hoping you’re keeping it as cool as possible in this hot and humid summer. We’ve got a couple of announcements that might interest you!
Today, we’re excited to introduce our two newest authors:
Kate Spell
As a kid, Kate Spell always had her nose in a book. As an adult, she decided she wanted other people’s noses in her books. Kate enjoys blending her favorite genres and frustrating her readers.
Don’t worry; it pays off in the end! When not writing or working her 9-5, Kate can usually be found spending time with friends and family, cuddling her cat, or playing Nintendo Switch.
Riverfolk Books has signed Kate Spell for her duology, The Impossible Bounty. The Impossible Bounty is a romantasy, Riverfolk’s first! It’s got tropes that will make you smile, like forced proximity and only one bed/dragon/horse! And really, who can afford a second dragon with these rates? And for our second new author…
Aaron Hubauer (Perpetual Motion)
Aaron is a part-time writer and full-time bird, and has always had a fascination with xenofiction and the way sci-fi and fantasy can depict non-human perspectives and contrast them with the human ones we are all familiar with. They started writing their first novel, Transliterated, in late 2023, having originally created the setting for a tabletop RPG system that never got out of the prototyping phase. The story of humans struggling to define their own identities when anything outwardly “human” about them was forcibly stripped away was just too compelling to be left in the scrap pile. Aaron seeks to create stories that pose difficult existential questions to their characters, and having multiple clashing answers to those questions drives the plot. After all, “Humanity” is what you make of it, even if you’ve got wings instead of hands.
And for our next announcement… The Massive LitRPG and Progression Fantasy Sale!
Summer is the perfect time for a deal, and luckily, JJ Thorn has organised the third annual Massive LitRPG and Progression Fantasy Sale!
There are a couple of non-Riverfolk books that I want to recommend too:
Honey, I’ve Leveled the Kids by Laura Huie, as I’m always a fan of her work, and I am a sucker for stories featuring parents.
That Which Devours by Jer Patch, who I love to death for all of her writing, and the book features at least one dinosaur barbeque.
Submissions are still open for our Dungeon Core LitRPG anthology, so if you haven’t submitted anything yet and you want to write a short story, check out this link! And for those of you who aren’t aware, Dungeon Core is a subgenre focused on a main character who is a dungeon: they set up rooms, traps, build monsters and give out loot.
We’re looking for stories that are between 7,00 and 10,00 words, and if your story is selected, not only will you be published in our anthology, but you’ll also be paid $100.00 USD!
