An exciting announcement and reading recommendations!

Greetings, friends and enemies!

With all of the heat of summer, we’re happy for just a smidgen of relief (that relief being deliciously crafted books and also pumpkin spice anything).

Riverfolk Books is proud to tell you that we've got two big things going on this month! Starting with…

J.L. Nichols’ debut, The Rise of the Blood God, is out!

So far, readers are loving it! Check out some of our favourite reviews:

“I can count on one hand the number of vampiric-centric books I’ve read, two if I include others in which they played a part, but I have grown to enjoy LitRPG books in the last few years and I really enjoyed this one. The system mechanics were consistent and fully part of the narrative. And the story, well, if I had the time to just sit and read, I would have finished it in one sitting.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed adventure… I liked that the character had a lot of internal conflict - seemingly at war with his mortal morals and new species norms.”

“It's just an enjoyable read with stakes and a dark moody atmosphere. I'm really hoping more is coming in this universe!”

Are you ready to hear about a story of magic, monsters and gods? Do you find yourself lacking in undead hordes ready to be conquered? Available as an eBook, paperback, or audiobook, narrated by the great Zach Holzberg, get your copy now!

Horror + Spooky Recommendations!

It’s now fall, and you know what that means! It’s the perfect time to indulge in some terrifying reads, and Riverfolk has some recommendations that we think you should check out!

Riverfolk Author Aaron Sofaer (Pastafarian) says The One Who Eats Monsters by Casey Matthews is a cozy lesbian romance thriller with definite horror elements and among the best-realized OP MCs she’s ever read.

Freya, one of our Creative Directors, has a couple of perfect recommendations for you, depending on what you’re looking for!

If you want a soul-crushing and phenomenal historical fiction horror, check out The Reformatory by Tananarive Due.

If you want a poetic and atmospheric LGBT+ young adult horror, check out Don't Let the Forest In by C.G. Drews.

And if you’re looking for a LitRPG with a fun twist on horror tropes, try The Game at Carousel by Rob M. Lastrel.

And for my recommendations, I (Weaver) think you should check out Demon World Boba Shop by R.C. Joshua. It’s more of a cozy recommendation than strictly horror! Despite the name, the demons are all nice people, but it’s a perfect fit for the season, and it’ll make you feel like everything is going to be alright!

Finally, I have to recommend Error Code, our collection of short horror stories! If you’re in the mood for some creepy stories that explore humanity’s dependence on technology and the dangers of this, check it out!

That’s all from me for now! If you check out The Rise of the Blood God, Error Code, or any of the books we’ve recommended, I hope you enjoy them!

Yours in otter cuddles,

Weaver and the Riverfolk team
